个人简介：

Professor Zhang Weixiong received his B.S. in Computer Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science (all in Artificial Intelligence) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA. He served for more than 20 years as a professor of Computer Science and Genetics at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, before being recruited to Hong Kong in December 2021 through the Hong Kong Global STEM Professorship Program. Currently, he holds the position of Chair Professor of Systems Biology & Artificial Intelligence and serves as the Associate Director of the PolyU Academy of Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR). Professor Zhang's research focuses on developing AI and data analytic methods for analyzing vast amounts of genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, and imagery data for complex disease studies. He is currently applying these technologies to address fundamental biological questions, including genetic and epigenetic underpinnings and non-coding transcript-mediated gene regulation underlying complex diseases such as psychiatric disorders and cancers. Professor Zhang is also actively involved in Artificial Intelligence research, with interests spanning machine learning (particularly large foundation models), data mining, combinatorial optimization, heuristic search, and planning. He has authored over 240 peer-reviewed papers.
